I moved to Norton Bavant in 1988 having bought Duart Cottage with Geoff. Some years later I began a City & Guild's course in Creative Embroidery initially at Trowbridge College. Later I moved on to Salisbury College to study another course in their Fashion department.
... since 2005 I have organised the Art Trail...
I realised just how much I enjoyed pattern drafting and constructing items of clothing; during my school years an enthusiastic, vibrant and youthful teacher made me aware of this. I also have my paternal grandmother to thank as she showed me the rudiments of using a needle and thread at an early age.
I then embarked on a 3 year Advanced City & Guild's Creative Embroidery course at Urchfont Residential College and later a distance learning felt course at Gloscat College.

In 2003 I took part in the second Wylye Valley Art Trail where I exhibited pieces from some of the courses I had attended. The enthusiasm I gained from the Art Trail encouraged me to get involved in making my own 'fabrics' and designing a variety of little handbags which proved very popular and I continued with this theme for a while.

Since 2005 I have organised the bi-annual Art Trail with this year's event taking place between 28th May and 5th June in the village hall, Norton Bavant.

In 2006 I was invited to exhibit at the Dorset Arts Week event and around this time I'd started to make felt so I was able to show work in this natural fabric. A felted vessel was admired and would be given a 'home' in a London house!
The making of felt needs a lot of space, water, soap and a certain amount of muscle power! In the summer months I make felt in the garage where I also dye white Merino fleece to my own colour requirements.

I've belonged to a group called Tx.tile.21 formed in 2000 and we have exhibited a wide range of stitched textiles in galleries and libraries around the surrounding counties. We also meet three times a year at a residential college.

Since discovering the wide range of techniques available, I am never short of creative ideas, some succeed and some don't. A collection of well over 100 books and subscriptions to magazines are useful sources of inspiration too.
