Local Artist - Jo Duggan  

Jo is a local artist based in Norton Bavant's neighbouring village of Heytesbury where she has her Studio. If you are looking for some interesting Christmas presents the Studio is Open until 11th December 2010 so there's still time to visit. Most of my work is "one-off" hand built pieces made with coils of clay, which are painstakingly scraped smooth and burnished, sometimes using slip colours to enhance the decoration, then the piece is smoked.
 
Jugs
Tin Glazed Oil Jugs
This is done by putting them in a brick box, with a mixture of newspaper and sawdust. It is set alight and smouldered for about 30 minutes.

I am strongly influenced by organic objects such as seedpods, buds, stones and the colours in rock formations.
 
I also have a range of traditional kitchen slipware, which I hand throw on the wheel, and decorate in earthy colours such as blues, greens and yellows.

Kitchen Slipware

I am currently open now every day until 11th December, I am selling my work as well as 5 or 6 other artists work. They are all local and have exhibited in the Wylye Valley Art Trail before. If you call in to the Studio, you may recognise a fellow Bavantonian, Pat Frost, who is also exhibiting.
