Night Time by David Houghton

Silent night
A blanket of stars
On a squid ink sky
No street lights
To hide our milky way
Satellites dancing in time

On planet Norton Bavant
This silence, so deep
Surrounds you, holds you, calms you
No dog’s bark
They’re all asleep
No sirens wail, there’s no need

Far away in the distance
A car quickly passes by
You can just about hear it
Yet only just, turn over
It’s gone
Feels like it’s a million miles away
Another galaxy, another time

That dark train you heard once
Hardly ever shows
The Chinooks seem to have flown
All that is left is darkness
Oh, and the sheep
They don’t snore
So close the curtains
Pull the blinds
Rest assured
It’s Night Time.
