Xmas Day on Planet Norton Bavant by David Houghton

Early morn
Deep snowfall
Underfoot
Golden sunlight
Pours in
Smoke rises
Woodburning scents the sky line

High on Cotley Hill
Ramblers look down upon the hamlet
“Some people live there?!”
Says an old one from
Smog ridden Birmingham

The SUV’s zoom in
Families are
Gathering

Church bells chime
Across the fields
A time for reflection
On Jesus’ birthday
A time to be kind
To friends, neighbours and yes – even – family

As the sun sets
Behind a hedge fund
Xmas Day disappears
Again

Yet on Planet Norton Bavant
The parties have just begun
And they’ll go on
And on
And on
And on

Until Mike
Falls over
Jane gets worried
And Tom
Arrests
Everyone

It’s Xmas Day on Planet Norton Bavant
Pop the cork
Eat the bird
Don’t worry about nothing

Fill yer boots
I hope you get something
Special in your
Stocking?

Xmas Day on Planet Norton Bavant
People come and go
Like Piccadilly Circus
Without the glow

Xmas Day on Planet Norton Bavant
A mixture of emotion
Xmas Day on Planet Norton Bavant
Home, home.

Cheers,
Yer local poet,
David
xx
