Dear Jo, congratulations! You have won 1st prize in a cookery competition. Your prize is a 3 week stay on an island retreat. You will be the only inhabitant, pack your bag and prepare to depart. You’ll need to think carefully about what to take with you, but absolutely no cookery books! Enjoy..... |
 |
So, the island belongs to you during your stay, what name would you give it? |
| Mah-amrap - as it reminds me of my favourite deli item. |
 |

 |
| You’re allowed to take a picnic hamper with you what food goodies would you fill it with? |
Most important items first: 6 bottles of Saint Émilion (2002). 6 bottles of Champagne - Piper Hiedsieck (brut). A Roquefort & Leek Tart, Bacon rounds, Beef with mushroom. A mixed green salad with an Avocado, Mint & Lime dressing. A fresh seedy loaf of bread, real Butter, a box of ready salted crisps, Cheddar cheese, Parma Ham with cream cheese. For something sweet I'd have raspberries and cream. |
 |
You're allowed one electrical household item – what would it be? |
A fan to keep me cool during the day and to keep me warm at night. |
 |
| You won’t need to take lots of clothes with you as the uniform is strictly shorts & t-shirts which are provided for you, but you can take one special piece of clothing – name it? |
| A warm jumper, a sun hat and sunglasses to protect myself from the sun, can I take all three? |
| To while away the time, you can take one luxury item or accessory with you – what would you take? |
Mahjong, as I've always wanted to learn how to play. |
| You’re allowed to take one fun item of your choice – what would it be? |
A pack of cards so that I can play Patience. |
 |
| What book would you take to read? |
| A Town Like Alice, a novel by Australian author Neville Shute. I've read this book a few times and it's about a young Englishwoman during World War II, it's set in Malaya and the Outback, Australia. A bit of a weepy but a lovely book. |
