Pat's Island Retreat

Dear Pat, you have won an award for the best Felt & Textile contribution at the Wylye Valley Art Trail and your prize is a 3 week break on an island retreat. You will be the only inhabitant, pack your bag and prepare to depart. You’ll need to think carefully about what to take with you, absolutely no Geoff's! Enjoy.....

So, the island belongs to you during your stay, what name would you give it?

An island of my own at last! As to its name, I'll call it Tovbotna Narn - well, it's just a mix of letters of some pleasant place I'll want to remember during my absence.
You’re allowed to take a picnic hamper with you what food goodies would you fill it with?
I've carefully selected some goodies to spoil myself - a good few, and well hung sirloin steaks, a huge stilton cheese, plenty of fruit, though there should be ample pickings on the island. A case of wine should be sufficient, I'm not fussy as to which country it comes from but preferably the wine should be of good quality and also a large bottle of Remy Martell brandy and more than one box of Thornton's chocs! Hope I'm not being too piggy!

You're allowed one electrical household item – what would it be?

My hair straighteners for that time when a dark stranger appears.

You won’t need to take lots of clothes with you as the uniform is strictly shorts & t-shirts which are provided for you, but you can take one special piece of clothing – name it?
I can still get into a lovely 'Ghost' dress which I've had for over ten years and with my hair in place, can I have a night out?
To while away the time, you can take one luxury item or accessory with you – what would you take?

I'll take water colour paints and paper and try to improve my artistic leanings, and perhaps a needle and thread to make a grass skirt.

You’re allowed to take one fun item of your choice – what would it be?

A swing ball to combat the excess of all that lovely food in the hamper!

What book would you take to read?
There are many books in our house, many of which I've never read. One of these is Olivia Manning's Fortunes of War. Some years ago the trilogy was a magnificent BBC TV serial. So, 924 pages of this book should see me through the three weeks.
You’re allowed to take one album with you to listen to – which would it be?
The album I'll take with me is Jose Carreras singing Andrew Lloyd Webber, that's if I can find another copy! The one we had was in the car that was written off two years ago and I used to play this constantly and sing along too.
You’re also allowed to take one additional track with you – which one?
My additional track will be Brian Ferry & Roxy Music's Love is the Drug which should keep me prancing about on the beach.
You can choose to take a film / DVD with you – what would you take?
I've recently seen, again (and many times beforehand), Jack Nicholson's film As Good As It Gets - such a wonderful story, amusing, funny and tear jerking. I'll be able to shed some tears without anyone seeing.

You’re also allowed to smuggle in a famous guest for a couple of days – who would it be and why?

A famous guest - well I would have chose Patrick Swayze, but he would be a bit too cool now! So how about Martin Shaw of Judge John Deed fame? And why? That's my secret!!!

Your 3 week trip is now over and you are travelling back to Norton Bavant, what is the first thing you will do when you arrive home?

I'll take a few deep breaths and admire the view from the garden and be pleased to be back in our cottage with Geoff and doggie too.

Would you like to be sent to the Island Retreat? If so let us know.
